  Checklist for electricity department personnel

    Following steps/procedures are recommended for electricity department:
     
  Precautionary measures and procedures for protection of electrical equipment should be reviewed and updated
     
  Post-disaster procedures and precautions that need to be taken to protect electrical equipment should be reviewed with the staff
     
  District staff must be instructed to disconnect the main electricity supply for the affected area
     
  Emergency repair groups equipped with food, bedding, tents and tools need to be dispatched
     
  To assist state authorities in the event of an alert warning, arrangements for standby generators should be made in the following public service offices:
   
Hospitals
  Water department
  Collectorate
  Police stations
  Telecommunication buildings
  Meteorological stations
     
  Department vehicles should be refuelled and parked in a protected area
     
  Emergency tool kits should be assembled and checked
     
  Following should be inspected on receipt of alert warning:
   
High-tension lines
  Towers
  Substations
  Transformers
  Insulators
  Pole
  Other electrical equipment
     
  If possible, total extent of damage to power supply installations should be reviewed by a reconnaissance flight
     
   RELIEF
     
  Casual labourers to be hired on an emergency basis to clear damaged poles and salvage conductors and insulators
     
  Repair/ reconstruction should be started
     
  Damaged poles should be cleared
     
  Emergency accommodation to be made in public places, camps or tents
     
  Accommodation to be arranged for emergency staff from outside the area
     
  If necessary, hospitals should be assisted in establishing an emergency supply by assembling generators and other emergency equipment
     
  Temporary electricity to be supplied to:
   
Transit camps, feeding centres, relief camps, cattle camps, district control room and local access roads
  Public facilities and public water systems
  Relief material godown.
     
  ·An itemised assessment of damage to be made to various electrical receiving centres and sub-centres
     
  All activities to be reported to the head office
     
  Conductors and insulators to be salvaged
